Diamond Polishing Pads: The Complete Selection Guide
Diamond polishing pads are the core consumable of stone fabrication and concrete polishing: resin-bond discs charged with diamond abrasive, stepped through grits from 50# (grinding) to 3000# (mirror polish). Choosing the right family — wet, dry or concrete — decides finish quality, speed and pad life.

Choose pads in 4 steps
- Pick the family: wet, dry or concrete
Wet resin pads are the default for granite, marble and quartz fabrication — water cools the bond and gives the cleanest cut. Dry pads suit on-site edge work and repairs where water is impractical. Concrete pads (resin, wet/dry) are engineered for the grind-hone-polish stages of concrete floors.
- Match grits to the starting condition
Restoration starts at 50#–200#; re-polishing can start at 400#–800#. The full 50# → 3000# sequence is the safe path to a uniform gloss — skipping grits leaves scratches that only show under raking light.
- Size the pad to the tool
3 inch (80 mm) pads follow edges and profiles; 4 inch (100 mm) is the all-round standard for angle grinders and polishers; larger diameters cover slabs and floors faster. Match the backing pad diameter to the pad.
- Use hook-and-loop backing pads
All DIAMTO resin pads mount on hook-and-loop (velcro) backing pads for fast grit changes. A worn backing pad causes vibration and uneven wear — replace it when the hooks flatten.

What is the difference between wet and dry diamond polishing pads?
Wet pads run with continuous water cooling — cleaner cut, less dust, longer pad life — and are the default for shop fabrication. Dry pads use a heat-resistant bond for on-site work where water is impractical; they need dust extraction and respiratory protection.
Do I need hook-and-loop backing pads?
Yes. Resin diamond polishing pads mount on hook-and-loop backing pads matched to the pad diameter. DIAMTO backing pads are reusable and specified for angle grinders and polishers — see the Backing Pads line in our catalogue.
What grit sequence should I order?
The standard full sequence is 50# → 100# → 200# → 400# → 800# → 1500# → 3000#. Order per grit per SKU; mixed-grit sets can be combined in one order — give us the breakdown in your RFQ.
What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ)?
The standard MOQ is 100 pieces per SKU. Mixed-grit sets can be combined within one order — tell us the grit breakdown you need in the RFQ.
What is the lead time?
Standard lead time is 15–30 days after order confirmation. Samples and repeat orders are usually faster. Sample orders and small quantities can ship by air freight to shorten delivery time.
Do you offer OEM / private label?
